Grade II c.350y cottage – Wiltshire

Long term damp issues on external walls – front (road facing) wall and side entrance.

These walls were the only true surviving walls of the original building. However front had been rendered outside and inside a standard gypsum plaster.

Quite by the cowboys to cover up ‘mask’ the issue using injecting (which would not have been allowed by Listing/Conservation officer anyway!!) and a cement slurry to the inside which would have made the situation even worse.

Excess moisture being introduced to the building, then trapped by the outside rendering and penetrating the inside plaster

SOLUTION – Lower outside ground levels & replace the original inside plaster from gypsum to Lime. The building can now breath, albeit not quite as good as original due to external render, but more than good enough for long term health and liveability
